Empowering Girls. Protecting Dreams. Building Futures.
Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and fulfil her God-given potential. Yet for many girls, poverty, harmful cultural practices, and limited access to educational resources stand in the way of a brighter future.
The IKAN (I Can) Project was established to ensure that these barriers do not define a girl's destiny.
Inspired by the vision and compassion of Hilda Bowa Chisi, IKAN exists to keep girls in school, empower them through education, and create communities where every girl is free to pursue her dreams with confidence.
Why IKAN?
The name IKAN means "I Can."
It represents more than a programme—it is a declaration of confidence, courage, and possibility.
It says to every girl:
I can learn.
I can dream.
I can overcome.
I can lead.
I can succeed.
We believe that when a girl believes in her potential, she becomes a catalyst for change in her family, her community, and future generations.
The Challenge
Across many communities, girls continue to face obstacles that prevent them from completing their education, including:
-
Poverty and financial hardship
-
Lack of school uniforms, books, and learning materials
-
Early and forced marriages
-
Teenage pregnancy
-
Cultural practices that discourage girls' education
-
Limited access to mentorship and positive role models
Too often, these challenges force girls to leave school long before they have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
The Hilda Chisi Foundation believes that every girl deserves the chance to write her own future—not have it written for her.
Our Approach
Through the IKAN Project, we provide practical support and long-term encouragement to help girls remain in school and succeed.
Our work includes:
📚 Educational Support
Providing school supplies, books, uniforms, stationery, and other essential learning materials to remove barriers to education.
🎓 Keeping Girls in School
Supporting girls at risk of dropping out so they can continue their education and complete their studies.
🌸 Mentorship & Personal Development
Building confidence, leadership, self-esteem, and life skills that prepare girls to become future leaders.
🤝 Community Engagement
Working with parents, teachers, traditional leaders, and local communities to promote the value of girls' education and challenge harmful practices such as early marriage.
💙 Creating Hope
Encouraging every girl to believe that her circumstances do not determine her future.
Why Girls' Education Matters
When a girl stays in school:
-
She is more likely to build a successful career.
-
She is better equipped to make informed life choices.
-
She contributes to the wellbeing of her family.
-
She helps strengthen her community.
-
She inspires the next generation.
Educating a girl is one of the most powerful investments a community can make.
Our Vision
We envision communities where every girl is valued, protected, educated, and empowered to fulfil her potential without fear or limitation.
Our goal is not simply to help girls stay in school today, but to see them become tomorrow's teachers, doctors, entrepreneurs, engineers, leaders, and changemakers.
How You Can Help
Your support can change a girl's future.
By partnering with the IKAN Project, you can help provide educational resources, mentorship, and opportunities that enable girls to remain in school and pursue their dreams.
Together, we can remove barriers, restore hope, and open doors of opportunity.
Because when a girl believes...
"I Can"...
Anything becomes possible.
